For many of us concerned with sustainability and the health of the planet, conducting business in the modern age has taken on new ethical overtones. To meet the challenge of long-term sustainability, to address climate disruption, to ensure a future for generations to come, we must rethink the ways we use resources, the ways in which we travel, the sources we use for energy, and the nature of our business practices.

One organization that I’ve found helpful as a guide and inspiration for adopting sound business practices is Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. As a long-term supporter and  strong advocate of their philosophy,  the VBSR mission statement captures the focus in a nutshell.

“Our mission is to foster a business ethic in Vermont that recognizes the opportunity and responsibility of the business community to set a high standard for protecting the natural, human, and economic environments of our citizens.”
